A food service manager in the Cabot School District, who resigned on Dec. 1, is accused of misappropriating nearly $ 47, 000, a state auditor said Friday.
Honora Walton, a former food service manager for Junior High South, was custodian of cafeteria meal revenue when $ 46, 923 from Feb. 1, 2005-Nov. 30, 2007, was not deposited in a bank, said Beverly Thwing, of the Division of Legislative Audit.
The district first discovered that $ 6, 001 for October 2007 had not been deposited. A subsequent audit revealed there had been another $ 40, 922 undeposited, Thwing said.
When asked about the situation, Thwing said that Walton provided fictitious deposit slips to the food service director.
William T. Thurman, superintendent of the Cabot School District, said in a letter to the audit division that internal cash handling procedures have been revised to ensure such a problem doesn’t occur again.
Thwing said the audit will be sent to the prosecuting attorney in the 23 rd Judicial District, Lona McCastlain.
McCastlain could not be reached by phone at her office Friday for comment.
A telephone number could not be obtained for Walton.
