There is a group of people out there that thinks the computer is a mystical device, said Ron Morgan, owner of The Computer Tutor. When I can show them how easy it is to use, I just love to watch the light bulbs light up.
Morgan has been teaching people how to use computer programs for 30 years. He began in California and continued when he moved to northwest Arkansas 20 years ago. About six years ago, he moved to Bella Vista.
I go to offices or homes, and I assist and train them, Morgan said.
He specializes in Microsoft and Intuit applications such as Excel, Word, Publisher, Front Page, Access, PowerPoint, Quicken and Quickbooks.
Publisher is a program that allows users to create brochures and flyers, post cards and greeting cards, he said.
Front Page, a user friendly program, lets them design Web pages. Its what he used to build his own Web site www. RonMorganEnt. com and also to maintain sites for clients including one in Argentina.
Individuals and businesses needing to keep track of finances can use the Intuit programs, Quicken and Quickbooks, he said.
The first step in teaching his customers how to use the applications is to put them in front of their computers.
You learn far better hands on, by using tactile senses or touch, he said.
Ordinarily, his sessions last two hours or less.
People reach a saturation point. They say, Just dont tell me any more, he said.
When he moved to Arkansas, he was charging about $ 64. 50 an hour.
That just didnt fly here.
Now, he charges $ 40 an hour, more if he has to go a long distance, such as to Fayetteville or farther.
His clients know what the costs are, so there are no surprises.
Thats an ethical way to do business, he said.
Among other enterprises, Morgan also owns Bella Vista / Benton County Lock & Smith.
His services include: opening car doors, making new keys, creating a master key, opening safes and handling other problems with safes.
The Computer Tutor hours are 9 a. m. to 4 p. m. Monday through Friday.
