Did I not tell you that September would fly by quickly ? Yes, here it is October, and Halloween candy is on sale.
I took some candy corn to work last week, and you would not believe how many new friends I made ! Candy corn was one of my momís favorite candies, and I really love it too. I like the little candy pumpkins as well. So if you want some new friends, candy corn is the answer.
Another great thing about October is that the windows are open a little more ó yes, seasonal allergies are still around, but the fresh air smells so great ó and the air conditioner is off more. Great ! Less electricity.
And for those of us who ìloveî mowing lawns, weíre about to get a little bit of a break, sort of like a five-month holiday.
Highfill celebrates their Hay Daze on Oct. 10 ó a time of fun and celebration. Donít forget to go out and join in the fun !
Happy belated birthdayís to some September celebrators. Wayne Meigs in Decatur celebrated 92 years of life, and what a blessing that is. Unfortunately, he also lost his oldest daughter Shirley this last month, so while there is blessing in a long life, there is also the chance of seeing your children die before you.
Happy birthday to Lloyd and Nanette Clapp ó I love it when married people have birthdays so close together ó Rachel Simmons, Susan, Mallory and Karmen Pollman. They must have had a lot of celebrating at their house with three birthdays. Brandi Alsip hit 21. She recently married, but I donít know her new name. My nieces Kristin and Kortni Park had birthdays, as did Samantha Williamson, Donna Jensen, Kevin Reed, and Harrison Hostetor. We cannot forget Bella Quam, Lorenzo Garcia, Joy Murphy, Jim Beiber and Sue Bucher.
My daughter Jessica went with the Academy on a Heritage Tour to the East Coast. Wow, what a thrill that must have been ! She got to go to Washington, D. C., New York City, Boston, New Jersey and even up to Maine. I think I want to go if they go again. What a thrill it must be to see areas unfamiliar with our own area.
Okay, enjoy October, and the fun things planned. Decatur is having a first weekend of October fun time so come and enjoy the fun and frolic. Time to put on sweaters and jeans; shorts will probably be put in the summer barrel. Have a great month.
We were blessed to see Mark and Kari Alsip here on a visit back home. Mark says he always reads ì Charlotteís Cornerî and anticipates getting back home and reading that he visited. Of course, the big news was that we got to meet his daughter, Molly, now 4 and very sweet. She came up to me, a total stranger, and said, ì Would you like some of my raspberry gum ? Mom, can we share with her ? î Unfortunately, she had shared with so many little children already, her raspberry gum was gone.
Molly is a sweetie, and we anticipate the time that she comes back to visit us. (Mark, show that to your buddies in Nashville. )
Oct. 6 is the last day to register to vote this year. One vote does count. One vote kept Andrew Jackson from being impeached and one vote helped make Washington, California, and a few other states join the Union. One vote counts; it could be yours.
