GENTRY ó Junior quarterback Chance Hyslip shook off a bum ankle, threw three touchdown passes and the Farmington Cardinals opened 1-4 A Conference play here Friday by running away from the Gentry Pioneers late 35-14.

Hyslip took a seat on the Cardinalsí bench amid the first possession then came back to put the Cards ahead 14-7 before halftime.

ì Heís had a bad ankle and he hurt it in that first series, î Farmington coach Mike Adams said. ì He showed a lot of courage. Heís hurting.

ì He did a great job for us; he executed well and had some big plays for us on play action pass that helped win the ball game. î

Hyslip completed 13 of 17 passes for 137 yards. He had scoring strikes of 11 to Logan Boudrey, 13 to Ben Adkins and 16 to Landon Parsley.

Leading 21-14, Parsley scored from the 3 and Melvin Beaufort from the 4 late in the game to bulge the final margin for Farmington (3-1, 1-0 ).

ì Theyíre a good ball team, î Gentry coach Brian Little said. ì They havenít lost many conference games in the past three years. For us to be in the ball game through three quarters shows improvement on our part.

ì Thatís what weíre focused on. Weíve improved, but we have mistakes keeping us from getting over the hump. î

Gentry (1-3, 0-1 ) was flagged 11 times for 90 yards, lost one of four fumbles and threw two interceptions.

Hyslip converted linebacker Caleb Wolfenbargerís interception of Gentry junior quarterback Caleb Ramsey late in the second quarter into a 14-7 Farmington lead at the half. Hyslip rolled to his left from the 13 three plays after the pick and threw to Ben Adkins in the end zone.

Hyslip tied the game at 7, going twice to Logan Boudrey on completions of 27 up the sidelines and then 11 over the middle for the score.

Ramsey completed just one of his first 13 passes, but it was a big one.

Robert Henderson, Gentryís leading receiver, took a short pass over the middle and cut up the right sidelines 88 yards to the end zone and a 7-0 lead.

Ramsey capped an 8-play, 80-yard drive on Gentryís first possession of the second half, going up the middle from the 10 to tie the game at 14.

Hyslip matched that drive, marching 67 yards in 9 plays to take the lead. Hyslip, under pressure at the 16, connected with Boudrey for a 21-14 lead.
