WAITING IN THE RAIN — This young lady was prepared for the rain last week as she waited for the school bus in Gravette. Rainfall from hurricane Gustav drenched the area with almost four inches of moisture and splattered the camera lens in this photo.
Sympathy is extended to Betty Pollreis and family. Ron passed away Friday, August 29. Ron’s passing has left a big vacant spot at Mt. Pleasant Church and the community. We will miss his smile, his big laugh, his stories and just the presence of him at church and Care and Share. Ron was always willing to lend a helping hand to anything that needed done. We miss Ron but we will see him again someday soon.
Sympathy is extended to Becky Edgmon and family. Becky’s brother, Shane Dodson, passed away recently.
Vern and Gloria Laughlin and children Chad, Shelley and Alec, Kasey, Tasha and Chloe Duke spent Labor Day in Hutchinson, KS, visiting Vern’s brother, Jack Trammell and family. There was lots of fellowship and good food. The grandkids enjoyed playing with cousins they don’t get to see often.
On Saturday several friends helped Lisa Spears celebrate her birthday with lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings after watching the Razorback game. Those helping her celebrate were Ritchie and Rachelle Simpson, Jarime Sharp, Jennifer Chotard, Anna Tucker, Daniel Balls, Jack Font, Matt Yoes, Steff Hunt and Brandon and Afton Cox. On Sunday she had a birthday lunch at the home of her parents, Howard and Kathleen Spears. Darrin, Christi, Matt and Hollyann Phillips also joined them in wishing her a Happy Birthday.
Howard and Kathleen Spears attended the wedding of Matt Himbree and Shae Bequette Saturday afternoon at Bethel Baptist Church in Bentonville. Shae is the daughter of Frank and Tammie Sue Bequette and the granddaughter of Darrell and Sue Boling. It was a beautiful wedding. Congratulations to the bride and groom.
We at Mt. Pleasant celebrated our “ Fifth Sunday Singing” on August 31. The Nazarene Church of Hiwasse joined us and presented a wonderful evening of songs and poems / readings. Afterward we all met in the fellowship hall for refreshments and visiting. We had a great time.
Mt. Pleasant just finished our week at Care and Share this past week. We all worked hard and had a good time.
I received some very interesting history regarding Mt. Pleasant recently from Schelley Wilson. Schelley is the former Schelley Jones, granddaughter of Glen and Bonnie Jones and a greatgreat-great-great-grand - daughter of David Edwards. Thank you, Schelley. I am still going over the book and will begin next week putting it in my article. Readers, I think you will really enjoy this. It is a history of David Edwards ’ family written by W. R. Edwards. This includes happenings in and around Mt. Pleasant Church and community. Watch for it.
