I have, on certain days, wished I could retire. I mean really stop all this work and sail on a ship to a wonderful island in the Pacific that has never known snakes or cattle. A little island that has a perfect temperature, never has bad weather and the only way to reach me would be by calling my secretary. Yeah, dream on !!

Or if I couldn't go that direction, I'd be happy to just retire in Mexico. I'd have my own servants, an avocado tree or bush or garden, however they grow, and plenty of Mexican strawberries, you know, pinto beans ! Today I would be almost happy to retire up north. Well, that is a tad extreme, isn't it ? Maybe I should say, even in town somewhere around here. That would be hard enough.

My cow that was costing $ 7 a day for medication, taking off a good dollar's worth of my hide daily and eating $ 14 worth of feed daily, died. Yep, died deader than a doornail. So, you say, now I must be saving money. Well, good thought but now I am one cow short and that makes me one calf short at sale time. Plus, I have no way to replace the cash I have already poured into the old hide.

My close relative wanted to go look at cars. She just wanted to look. I figured it was raining so why not, and we did. She nosed around two or three lots before she finally innocently mentioned that she would like to look at that kind that has the little crown on them, could we ? Sure, and did she just look ? Of course not ! She is driving a new sage green jitney and I still am saddled with the George Strait truck !

Can you imagine baling hay in September ? Me neither, but grass is so plentiful that I just have to do it. Then the baler got plugged up, caught the wad on fire and burned to the hubs. I was dang lucky I didn't set the field on fire !

My close relative always tries to have a good fall crop in her garden. I slipped in some watermelon seeds so I could have some late melons and they all produced in abundance, cucumbers ! And when and why did mankind start eating gourds ?

I went to town to drink a cup of coffee with the board members and not one single person was in the coffee emporium. The waitress said it was a slow day, as if I needed that information, so I just went to the feed store in hopes of a good visit.

The only person available was that kid (he must be about twenty-one or twentytwo ) that drifted in from New Mexico and can count money but can't speak American very well. I bought a load of cubes and went home.

It is my opinion, and everyone has one, I am down here in this deep gorge for a reason. I sure don't like it, wish I could climb out, but while I'm here I figure it's a good time to start making my list for Turkey Day. That list is the one you remind yourself with that you could be much better off than you realize.

I don't need oxygen tanks, crutches, wheelchairs, white canes or prosthetic arms, legs or hands. Our Grands are healthy, and exceptionally smart ! My close relative knows how to cook and will ! I could go on, but you get the drift ! Have a good day. I'm gonna !
