West Siloam Springs News : Squirrels invade apple trees
Posted on Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Folks, what a great week. Just beautiful... !
Our gardens are still doing well and so are our native squirrels. I have a June apple tree in my back yard which produced very well this year.
The sassy squirrels are feasting right from the tree. I have always had plenty of June apples to supply my need and yet leave some for the squirrels, however, the group leader of the squirrels seems to have a different idea - he takes what he wants and leaves me a few. This same idea he carries over into Norma Watson's cucumber and squash patch and now he is on her tomatoes.
I feel a tender quilt when I gripe about it as our Lord has given us an ample supply for both.
It was 91 degrees on Sunday and although we are promised an increase in temperature in the coming week, we are also promised a good shower by Thursday. In spite of all the past rains, we are always thankful for a shower to freshen everything up.
J. O. Thomason's granddaughter, Jasmine, helped celebrate her father's birthday this weekend. After having vascular surgery recently and having to stay in, Cecil Thomason felt like getting out a bit so she joined the rest of the family and enjoyed celebrating her son-in-law's birthday.
This past week has been a busy one for the Hammers family. Two of Billie's grandsons from Arkansas came in for the week. She said even though she was delighted to spend time with her grandsons, she realized she had forgotten how much a growing boy can eat. She spent a good deal of her time in the kitchen cooking, cooking, and cooking some more.
The neighbors of Betty Bateman gave a birthday party in her honor on Sunday. They surprised her with a watermelon along with her cake. It was surmised that she enjoyed the melon even more than the cake.
Recently, while shopping, I noticed the local stores are kept neater and better organized when the merchandise is kept on the shelves and not scattered on the floor by some unruly and disorderly child. I want to express my appreciation for parents who take the time, care and effort to properly teach and train their children to be honest, trustworthy and to have respect and consideration for others.
Isn't it wonderful to look out on a breezy day and see the birds in the cottonwood trees as they sway ? The Lord seems to be rocking the baby birds in their nest to sleep. We have only to open our eyes to see the beauty and wonder of our Creator.
It is so good to know, as His prized creation, all of this was made so we might enjoy it.
Let us all give thanks for our many blessings and take out time to write someone a note, send a card, or make a telephone call to let them know we care. There is always someone we can speak and encouraging word to if we take time to look around. Don't forget to call in your news and tidbits that you want to share with the rest of us. I was graciously reminded that I have not included my phone number in the past, so I am now listing it that you might be able to call me. Thank you in advance for your contribution. Till next time...
