GENTRY — A full day of activites is planned for Friday’s Freedom Fest at the city park.

Activities will begin early in the day, with softball and horseshoe tournaments. Rides, displays, food booths and venders are scheduled to be open by noon.

The Independence Day pageants were cancelled Monday because of a shortage of contestants, but everything else is set to be held as scheudled.

The following is a schedule of the day’s events and activities:

• 10 a. m. — Horseshoe tournament — Horseshoe throwers may register for the tournament at the horseshoe pits prior to the start of the event.

• All-day — Co-ed softball tournament games will be played all day at ball diamonds in the city park and at McKee Foods Corporation ball fields.

• All day — Old tractors, trucks and engines will be on display throughout the day in the park. This display is sponsored by the Tired Iron of the Ozarks. • Noon — Inflatable rides for children — $ 10 arm bands allow unlimited access all day to inflatable slides, bouncies, an obstacle course, castles and small climbing walls. Rides open at noon and close when the fireworks start. • Noon — A dunk tank, speed throw and a more serious rockclimbing wall will open by noon and remain open all afternoon and into the evening hours. • Noon — Food booths, arts and crafts booths and games will open at noon.

• Noon — Camel rides will be available in the park. The rides are provided by the Wild Wilderness Safari, located just north of Gentry. • Noon — Free face painting will be provided by O’Kelly Automotive. • 2 p. m. — A car show will be held in the northwest corner of the park, near the large trees.

• 3 p. m. — Sooner Pro Wrestling is set for the afternoon. This was a new event last year, but very popular. It is expected to draw a crowd.

• 5: 30 to 7: 30 p. m. — The Continental Singers Worship Band will be performing on the park stage.

• 8 p. m. — Earl’s Garage Band will be performing from 8 until 9: 30 p. m. The rhythm and blues band, with members from Gentry and northwest Arkansas, was well received last year and is coming again.

The display will be the largest ever held in Gentry. The Gentry Fire Department will coordinate the event and ignite the fireworks.
