BASKETBALL Lady Razorback camp University of Arkansas women’s basketball coach Tom Collen will host one camp this week. The camp is: Shooting Camp — boys’ and girls’ grades 2-12, July 25. Ecclesia College holds camp Ecclesia College will host a 4 th-12 th grade boys’ and girls’ camp July 21-24 from 9: 30 a. m. to 4 p. m. at All-Star Sports Arena in Springdale. Recreation League Signups for players in grades 4-7 are currently under way for Northwest Arkansas Youth Sports recreational league. The cost is $ 65 and scholarships are available. Homeschool meeting The Knights Homeschool basketball organization will have a registration and informational meeting for the 2008-2009 season at 6: 30 p. m., July 29 at the Jones Complex for Families (Room 227 ). The Knights program offers homeschooled students age 11-18 the opportunity to play basketball at a competitive level. There are junior and senior high teams. For more information, call 466-5514.
GOLF AAU Mavericks to hold tourney The Arkansas Mavericks, a ninth-grade girls’ AAU basketball team comprised of players from the Northwest Arkansas area, will hold a golf tournament on Aug. 23 at Valley View Golf Club in Farmington. The tournament will start at 9 a. m. and proceeds will be used to support the Mavericks in the upcoming season. The cost of the tournament is $ 300 per team (four-man scramble, limited to the first 36 paid teams ). This is a flighted tournament so 40 percent of all entry fees will be paid back in cash prizes. The registration deadline for this tournament is Aug. 22. Three girls from Siloam Springs — Lindsey Larkin, Emery Rakestraw and Makenzie Sharp — play for the Mavericks, which are coached by Jerry Larkin and P. D. Rakestraw. RUNNING Run for the Grapes The 12 th annual Run for the Grapes presented by First Federal Bank and the Fayetteville Tri-Sport Athletic Club will be held at 7 a. m., Aug. 9. Pre-registration prior to Aug. 4 is $ 15 for the 5 K Run / Walk and $ 8 for the Kids Fun Run. Pre-registration after Aug. 4 is $ 20 for the Kids Fun Run. SOFTBALL Players needed The Northwest Arkansas Heat fastpitch softball team is looking for players to complete their 2008-2009 roster.
