ROGERS - The War Eagles just keep having new players show up at practice. This week junior Terrance McElroy joined the program and the coaching staff is awaiting word on his eligibility.

McElroy went to Oakdale Junior High as a freshman and attended a school in Little Rock last year. Coach Perry Escalante is interested to see what the 5-foot-8, 180-pound junior can do.

"Any time you see a good looking kid like that, you want see how he can help us," Escalante said. "It is good to see any kid come here."

Two weeks ago former Rogers Mountie running back Brandon Austin, a junior, joined the War Eagles. Earlier this week Austin said he will not be eligible until his parents close on their house, which is inside Heritage's district boundaries, on Sept. 15. That means Austin will be on the sidelines for the first two games of the season.

In practice Austin has been getting work at running back, cornerback and as a kick returner.

"He gives us another dimension to the backfield," Escalante said. Escalante said a couple of his players have progressed this week in practice including lineman Evan Zupan (6-2, 221 ).

Sophomore Jimmy Britton is back practicing with the War Eagles. Britton is recovering from knee surgery and will be the third-string quarterback behind Reed Brown and Casey Wilber. If he is healthy, Britton should also see plenty of time at cornerback. Britton's status for the Sept. 5 season opener at Springfield (Mo. ) Parkview is probable, Escalante said.
