Students' hard work rewarded with trip

High school students are taking college classes and their hard work is rewarded with an educational trip at the end of the semester thanks to the initiative of Tim Pate, advanced placement biology teacher. Pate began taking the AP science class students on trips and experienced the Grand Canyon the first year and Gulf Shores, Ala., last year. During the trip to Alabama, the students visited Fort Morgan and Dauphin Island Estuarium. The May 2009 trip is still in the planning stage, Pate said, adding that fundraising is a daunting task when it involves from 25 to 30 students traveling more than 2,000 miles. Students are working together in the fundraising activities which have included 50/50 drawings at football games and a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s at which the students served breakfast. There will be 50/50 tickets sold at Pea Ridge home basketball games, as well. An additional incentive to this basketball season’s fundraising is an end-of-season drawing for those who buy $5 worth of tickets. Supporters - Wednesday, November 19, 2008

Pea Ridge P.T.O. meeting The Pea Ridge P.T.O. will meet at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Pea Ridge Elementary School Library. Winter holiday concert The Pea Ridge High School band, jazz band, 8th grade band and 7th grade beginning band will present their Winter Holiday Concert at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, in the Pea Ridge High School cafeteria. The concert will also include a spaghetti dinner fundraiser and dessert bake sale to raise money for uniforms.
