Well, they have made changes again at the Elkins Senior Center.

Our new director has been there for a weeks now. We are happy to have her. She is very nice and has high hopes of building up our programs. WE are all having those hopes, too. I really enjoy the time I spend down there with my friends, whether we are just visiting while eating, playing bingo, having a ball game or working on some project to raise money for the center. We all work or play together.

Yesterday we ordered new t-shirts for our baseball team. Thank you, Shirley Steel, for helping us out on that. The game is next Friday, but she said she or Troy would get our shirts to us by Wednesday. Now what other company would do that for us on such short notice ? That is the good thing about doing business with our local people. Thank you again, Shirley. I will let you all know when another ball team is coming over to play us. Maybe a lot of you will come have lunch with us and watch the game to see our team all dressed up in their new shirts. You might even enjoy throwing a beanbag or two.

On Oct. 9-10, we are planning a yard sale at the Elkins Community Center. It will be inside the building on Thursday and outside in front of the building on Friday with plans to have a big flea market that day. So get ready, folks. If you are interested in the market call Joyce Bunch. If you have something to donate to us seniors for our sale, you can call Angela at 643-2741. We always appreciate any and all the help we can get. We will even take your dollar donations. Things that sell real good, I'm told, is jewelry, pretty lap robes, what-nots, jeans, blouses (good clean clothes ), men's shirts, jeans, etc. Your all probably know a lot more about having yard sales than I do. I have never had one, but my kids do and I know it is lots of work.

We plans to have a bake sale again in November and December. Get your recipe books out and your pocketbook. We have a lot of good cooks. You won't want to miss that. I hope Laverne will feel like making a pie or two for the sales. She wasn't able due to back surgery when we had our other one.

Another new thing, or maybe I should say a change coming, is for you folks that get commodities. Very soon they will no longer be brought to the Community Center. Instead, you will go to Wiggins Methodist Church on 6 th Street in Fayetteville to get your food. The Elkins Senior bus will take you there to get your food. I'm really not sure how that is going to work out. Of course, you can go there on your own to get them if you wish. I really don't know anything about that program except they have been bringing them to the Community Center and the seniors and cooks have been sacking them for distribution.

We are suppose to be getting a new WII sports video game -- a tail gate golf game and we're trying to have some pitch card games or whatever card game you might be interested in to go along with our bingo and domino games and ball games. Angela hopes to have something for everybody to do who want to take part. It's soon going to be too cold to work outside. It will be nice to have a warm place to gather and have a good hot lunch and play games or just visit.

The ladies quilt ever Monday morning. You ladies or gentlemen are welcome to come do quilting.

A group does exercise every Monday and Wednesday starting at 10 a.m. Some walk at the park. I think that is on Monday and maybe Wednesday, too. I will have to let you know about that later.

Monday, Oct. 6, the bus will leave from the Elkins Senior Center parking lot at 4: 30 p.m. to got to Catfish Johns in Springdale for our dinner out. The reason we are going on Monday rather than Tuesday is because they have a band play music on Monday. We hope to get to stay for the music. If you wish to go, put your name on the sign up sheet at the Center. The bus can take 10 people and the driver. When more than that many wants to go, someone has to take their own car. But so far, we haven't had a problem with that. We have a good bunch of seniors who still drive. Thank the Lord. Wish I could still get in and out of my car to drive.

The Elkins City Council election is coming up real soon. My son-in-law John Snell is running for the Ward 1 council seat. I don't know if some of you will remember John. When he and Debbie lived here before moving to West Palm Beach, Fla., some 10 years ago, John was a volunteer fireman, a first responder, served on the city council and was auxiliary police. So he is no stranger to city government.

Until next time, stay happy.
