NADC speaker comes to St. Paul

St. Paul agriculture students in the welding class and all seniors enrolled in agriculture classes this semester were treated to a visit on Sept. 15 from Jeff Miller, a recruiter for Nashville Auto-Diesel College in Nashville, Tennessee.
He told the students about the campus and its programs and benefits. Outlining the opportunities of auto-diesel and the jobs they could get when they graduate captured the students' attention. Miller also told the students about the dorms and the off campus apartments, which he said were nice.
J. B. Hunt, Cat and John Deere are only a few of the big companies who actively recruit NADC grads, Miller explained. He said the campus placement is eighty-five percent and eighty-seven percent will graduate with a job.
He said the average time period for the NADC schooling is thirteen months and three extra months for high performance. According to St. Paul agriculture teacher Susan McDonald, the tuition is $ 20, 000 for the 13-month program, a fee which covers tuition, books, housing, and food. "They also give the students uniforms," McDonald said.
The college is approved for all federal aide programs. St. Paul students viewed a video of the campus before Miller came to speak so they would be familiar with the programs offered. The video illustrated the program rotations of auto-diesel mechanics, collision repair, high performance fabrication, and automotive.
Several St. Paul juniors and seniors intend to attend NADC, and a tour of the college campus is being planned for later this year.
"We are pretty excited about getting to visit NADC. Several of our kids are seriously considering attending college there, said McDonald. "Even though they are more expensive than our local vocationaltechnical schools, their job placement services are superior. Most of the NASCAR crew chiefs are NADC grads. Upper and middle management in many of the largest trucking and auto service companies are also NADC grads."
