HUNTSVILLE -- After months of meetings the core facilities group along with administrators had hoped to present the plan to a larger crowd at the Wednesday, Sept. 24 meeting held at the HHS Cafeteria. Two other meetings had drawn crowds of more than 150 patrons.

A small group of around 20 patrons came to the meeting to see the final plan to be presented to the school board at its regular meeting on Oct. 13..

The 12 classroom building that will sit where Old Main sits today will feature a porch made of some of the stones and in a style reminiscent of the 1928 building. Windows are planned to be grouped in a similar fashion giving the look of Old Main as passersby gaze up to the pastoral setting.

Superintendent Shelby Sisemore worked at getting representation from every zone along with administrators, community members and citizen concerned about saving Old Main together as a facilities team. The group has met repeatedly discussing options, weighing facts and trimming budgets to get to the final plan to be presented for board approval.

If the voters approve the refinancing of the districts existing bonds at the January election the expected revenue along with the 58 percent matching from the state will finance the construction. The district is required by the state to build the classrooms or face facilities distress and possible state takeover.

Sisemore explained that the board can, without voter approval, if the refinance vote fails take a second lien. A measure that Sisemore termed "slow suicide"for the district.

Those attending the meeting felt the small crowd meant the public was pleased with the decision and would go forward with its recommendations to the board on Oct. 13.
