U. S. Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark. ) this week presented Springdale resident Edward Johnson with Arkansas's "Outstanding Older Worker"award from Experience Works, Inc. One outstanding older worker from every state in the nation receives the award each year. "Older workers contribute to countless companies and organizations throughout Arkansas and the nation. I'm pleased to present Edward Johnson with this award for his dedication to his work and his service to the community. He serves as a role model for all Americans and exemplifies the achievements that can be attained after traditional retirement age," said Lincoln.

Johnson, 78, serves as the local veterans representative at the Fayetteville Department of Workforce Services, helping veterans find employment and assisting disabled veterans on special projects. He has worked at the department for nearly 30 years and serves as a mentor for new employees. Johnson also developed an award program for employers who provide outstanding service to the department's clients.

In addition to fulltime employment, Johnson is involved in the Lions Club and the Rogers-Lowell Chamber of Commerce.

Experience Works, also known as the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP ), helps low-income seniors, many with multiple barriers to employment, receive the training they need to find good jobs in their local communities. Lincoln is a long-time advocate of the program, which is funded through the Older Americans Act.
